Jumbo Jet’s Corner!

“Cedar Point, So new it’s like you’ve never been there before” is what the cover of the 1972 Cedar Point Brochure states. On the inside is a park map showing the brand new Jumbo Jet….
Sometimes when we look at the park map we get lost in all the details. Case in point, I had forgot all about the mini golf next to the original WildCat, The refreshment stand with the Polka Dot Roof, the security snow fence or perhaps the misprint of Jumbo Jets. WOW great memories, which kinda makes you wonder what memories are being planned for 2011? Of course this blogger would love to see a new and updated Jumbo Jet on the beach again in this particular corner of Cedar Point. Let’s Ride!

An open letter to Dreamland!

A picture of Dreamland in Minsk Belarus

I thought I would share an email with you that I wrote to Dreamland in Minsk Belarus regarding our beloved Jumbo Jet. Then I got to thinking that they might not know english so I had the letter translated in to Russian compliments of Google… Who knew it would be FREE! I’ll keep you posted on any response that I get from Dreamland.

Hello Dreamland,
My name is Jerry McCready and I write a blog dedicated to a ride called the Jumbo Jet that was at Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio USA from 1972 – 1978. I have reason to believe that the ride by the same name that was erected at your park earlier this year is the same ride. I was wondering if you would be so good as to take some additional digital pictures of the Jumbo Jet and send them to me, so I could post on my blog. Perhaps you might have a video of the Jumbo Jet in action. Anything that you could provide would be welcomed.

Kindest Regards,

Jerry

Russian looks really cool / Русский действительно впечатляют:
Здравствуйте, Dreamland,

Jumbo Jet’s Layout

This is a great picture of the layout of the Jumbo Jet Roller Coaster. I know this is not of our Jumbo Jet, but rather the Jumbo Jet that was at Coney Island and is now thought to be at a park in China. Perhaps Cedar Point’s new ride announcement coming up in August will be of the new and improved Jumbo Jet that will have the same layout as the original and will take it’s place on the beach were the Extreme Stadium is now. Then I woke up and realized that it was all a dream. Let’s Ride!

Jumbo Jet new for 2011?

Could it be true? A new and updated Jumbo Jet? According to an article in the Sandusky Register; Web update: New Cedar Point thrill ride, Cedar Fair’s Chairman and CEO Dick Kinzel was quoted as saying “It’s going to bring back a lot of memories for people that follow Cedar Point“. Now I am just speculating here, but what other ride, that is gone, do people talk about besides the Jumbo Jet? Maybe, just maybe Cedar Point will bring back the Jumbo Jet… I am already waiting in line for the ride in my head. Let’s Ride!

Can you hear me now?

You gotta love technology! Well I do and a few months ago I got a new “smartphone” from Palm. I think that the reason they call it a “smartphone” is because they are smarter than most people, me included. I did manage to get a great background from Cedar Point’s Brochure featuring the Jumbo Jet: I am still hoping that Cedar Point will bring back the Jumbo Jet name in 2011, with a new coaster that has the same layout as our beloved Jumbo Jet. Cedar Point… Can you hear me now?

Shoot the Rapids – POV

Well it looks as if Cedar Point got all the kinks worked out of Shoot the Rapids and it’s open just in time for the big July 4th weekend. Here is a great POV of STR from the marketing department at Cedar Point:

To say that STR is the same ride as the Classic STR would be to say that the new MINI is the same as the Classic MINI. Yea not so much. You wonder if those that loved the Classic STR feel the same about the new one? Perhaps it would be the same way I would feel if CP brought back the Jumbo Jet. Yea it would have the same name, but would I be just as thrilled with the new Jumbo Jet. A point to ponder…. Hey Cedar Point… Please say your new ride for 2011 is the Jumbo Jet new and improved for 2011. Let’s Ride!
