Reflections from thelostcoaster blogger….

I started this blog on 05/31/2009 as a way to keep the kid inside of me and for the most part that has worked. I was having a mid-life crisis and could not believe that I was approaching the big 5-Oh (NO say it ain’t true!). It seemed like just yesterday I was in the 8th grade and ridding the Jumbo Jet for the 1st time. I figured that I would do a little work find out what I needed to know and then move on.

Several times I have taken a sabbatical thinking that my work was done and I could walk away, after all I found thelostcoaster in Minsk Belarus. Right…or did I? When it comes right down to it, I don’t really know if I found CP’s Jumbo Jet. Signs are good that I have, but I don’t really know for sure. Each time I would return with more information on one of many Jet Star type coasters and there stories kept growing. Along the way I’ve met some really neat people both in person and by email. Who would have thought that a little blog about a roller coaster could have lasted so long? Not me. So I continue… a couple of post here and there and I hope that the videos, pictures and little things that I write fill your thirst about the coaster that started it all for me… CP’s Jumbo Jet… thelostcoaster….

The Rocket Up Close!

Since we did several posts about the Jet Star 2… I thought it was time to get up close and personal with what I call a Jet Star 2 1/2. It has the layout of a Jet Star 2, with the support beams of a Jumbo Jet or Jet Star 3 and can support 2 cars in a train. This is Furuvik’s Rocket (Alton Tower’s Black Hole):

GateKeeper in Jumbo Jet’s Spot

So Cedar Point has announced that the new ride for 2013 is GateKeeper, which will take the place of Disaster Transport which took the place of WildCat. To me this conner of CP will always be hallowed ground and the ground that Jumbo Jet made famous…. Let’s take a virtual ride on GateKeeper:

Jet Star by SDC for sale?

Are you looking for a Jet Star for your backyard? Well you may be in luck and you’ll need a really big back yard. Gordonas one of my many followers sent me a link for a Jet Star that is up for sale: The interesting thing is that all though it looks like the Jumbo Jet, this coaster was built by a company called SDC (SDC on RCDB) which is no longer in business. You can check out the Jet Star for sale at laferiasite.com .

Sold for SCRAP???

WildCat was new for 1979 and replaced Jumbo Jet, that headed for Palace Playland in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. News is not good for WildCat It has been reported that Cedar Point’s WildCat has been removed from the park and sold for scrap, this means that the coaster is truly lost. I’ve reposted the pictures that have appeared on this very blog and in the original colors. 1979 – 2011 RIP WildCat!

Jumbo Jet July 1973

Hello…and look who is back. After a long hiatus from this very blog, I have returned and on the prowl again for anything Jumbo Jet, Jet Star 2 or WildCat. Drop me a line at thelostcoaster at live dot com or thelostcoaster at facebook dot com if you have any pictures or ideas. Alright here we go! I found this great picture looking down on our beloved Jumbo Jet from what I would believe is from the space needle. Look how close she sets next to the beach and the cue lines in direct sunshine and no shade, You know that was a long hot wait! This picture was taken in July 1973 by Macserv and Jumbo Jet was looking good. The next year would be my 1st and only time to ride her. Until next time Cheers!

Soon to be a Lost… Jet Star 2?

I’ve just received and update on the Jet Star 2 that is located in Lithuania. A friend of thelostcoaster blog by the name of Ignas is telling me that this Jet Star 2 is in disrepair and is in need of being refurbished. Only one of the cars are being used and that the other 2 are being used for parts. Here are some the pictures that Ignas has sent me…
This is just part of the pictures that Ignas sent me, I’ve got lots more to post… Makes you want go to Lithuania to see if you can catch a ride on the Jet Star 2… Let’s Ride!!!!

Silent Cedar Point 1973

I can’t tell you how much I love YouTube… This silent Super 8mm video was posted at the end of January 2011. This has some great footage of what Cedar Point looked like when I visited for the first time in 1974. See the original Shoot the Rapids, log ride, big slide and the Frontier Lift. Be on the look out for the Jumbo Jet at :50 and 12:53:

By the looks of the parking lot it was a busy day at Cedar Point… I kinda wish that Cedar Point was not as famous as it is now. It would be nice to go back to the was Cedar Point was back in the 70’s! Let’s Ride!

Thankful for the Jumbo Jet

I hope your Thanksgiving day was GREAT and you ate to your hearts content…

Years ago my mother had a complete set of plates with a “Blue Willow” pattern on them and we used them a couple of times for Thanksgivings Day. I came across this picture of a Blue Willow Cedar Point plate featuring my favorite ride the Jumbo Jet and thought how thankful I was to have ridden it… Of course there is lots more that I am thankful for, but I will not bore you with the details… Happy Thanksgivings Day, even if I am a little late do to all the food I ate! Lets Ride!
